Exquisite Passage, Whyte Museum, Banff, 1993 exhibition label verso; bears inscription 'given by Cullen to Mr. and Mrs. J. Beattie [his neighbours in Chambly, Quebec as a wedding gift in 1934] on gallery label verso; the artist travelled to Banff in 1930 with his wife and William Watson; he exhibited two larger canvases, Mount Norquay from Echo River and Mount Norquay with the RCA in 1930; this appears to be a preliminary sketch for the two paintings; it is also likely this painting exhibited at the Watson Exhibition in 1931)
